New Beginnings. Uh, again.
11:26 PM, Sunday, 9th August, 2009 - by Asha

A Game of Fools has found a new artist! It will now be drawn by James Miller, whose first strip will be going up tomorrow.

Also, for your amusement, here is the camera phone captured, erm, "line-art" I had the pleasure of using as a reference for last Monday's comic:

Crappy Lineart 1

Crappy Lineart 2

Crappy Lineart 3

Bear in mind that scaled down to this size it looks somewhat bearable - when zoomed in to a size required for drawing it in Photoshop it looks like little more than a blur much of the time.

You probably have also noticed that The Slopbucket is probably one of the most inconsitantly designed buildings in existance. One of my main aims when starting this webcomic was to acheive a sense of continuity with the various places the characters frequence (houses, places of work, etc) so even with multiple artist changes the characters' living rooms, bedrooms, etc look more or less the same. In this particular case, I have failed miserably. This is mostly because all of the intial Slopbucket comics (which were of course done by seperate artists), were all done at the same time, and therefore there was no chance for everyone to acheive a uniform look. And with the last two strips, the need to see things from various perspectives didn't permit reusing the photographic image used in a couple of the early ones (which, I probably should point out, is not a GIS image but rather my friend's garage).

Because I am very anal and pedantic about this sort of stuff, I have spent some time trying to rationalise the design of The Slopbucket. This is what I've come up with:

There is only one official kitchen in the restaurant, which was seen here - it survived the fire partly intact, and therefore renovations on that room are pretty much complete. However, Maurice, not being familiar with a lot of the traditional rules of running a resturant, generally likes to do the cooking in various areas of The Slopbucket (and the sheer amount of drinking he does causes him to forget which room is which). Therefore, he also often cooks in the dilapitated, most burnt area at the back (seen here and here). The area where customers sit and eat (seen here and here) is located in a makeshift shed/trailor area put up after the fire, while there are several hallways winding from the main kitchen that mostly survived the fire.
