A Recap The next comic should be up very soon, I'm just putting the finishing touches on it right now. Anyway, James suggested the other day that I put up a bit of a recap of what has happened so far in A Game of Fools, as this current arc is quite dependant on previous events in the comic, some of which have been a bit convoluted. I should point out to any new readers that this is a fairly rough outline of the events so far, and as it omits many smaller details that may become important down the track it does not at all replicate the experience you'd get from reading the archive. It is also extremely spoiler heavy, so if you have any aversion to that sort of stuff, don't read any further unless you have already read through the archive. ---------- The story begins when Joey, a man of not particularly high intelligence, convinces his friends Adam and crazed stoner Sylvester to go on a camping trip, insisting that it'll be the most fun they've ever had and that he has "planned everything completely". This turns out not to be the case - not only does Joey take them to the wrong forest (a dark, dangerous place where many a camper has died horribly), but he doesn't pack any sort of camping equipment or supplies, believing all they will need to sustain them is alcohol. Very quickly they become horribly lost and are unable to find any sort of food or shelter. Unbeknownst to them, several alien creatures have been observing them from a nearby spaceship. As madness and starvation descends upon them, Adam and Sylvester eventually resort to trying to eat Joey - luckily, he is saved in the nick of time when the alien spaceship suddenly abducts them. The key members of the alien crew consist of Captain Sepultra, a seemingly tough commander who has trouble keeping control of his crew, Admiral Gloog, his perverted and cruel second in charge and Private Neeg, a hapless and terrified new recruit who is Gloog's continual victim. Sepultra, who has been ordered by his superior (a mysterious shadowed figure) to capture Earth creatures to use as spies in an upcoming invasion, initially plans to use the three main characters for this purpose, but is ordered to instead interrogate them to find out what information they know. Mistakenly believing Joey to be the smartest, Sepultra transports him to another room to be interrogated, leaving Adam and Sylvester alone in a cell. They soon manage to escape, and manage to intimidate Neeg into handing over his laser gun. They find little opposition from the other alien crew members, who are terrified of these "strange, pink creatures" and started fleeing in mass numbers, and find Joey. Their escape is halted, however, when they run into Gloog, who has managed to overthrow Sepultra in the resulting commotion. He orders them to be tied up so he can... do unpleasant things to them. Just as things seem their bleakest, Neeg, fed up with the way Gloog has been treating him, knocks him out. Adam and Sylvester force Neeg to take them to the escape pods and fly them back to earth - unfortunately, Neeg has no idea how to fly the thing, and teleports out just as it's about to crash. The characters somehow survive the crash, and in an astonishing coincidence the escape pod has landed in the same forest they were camping in. They soon find the car, and begin the long journey home. Sylvester wants to tell the world about the aliens, but Adam is worried people will think they are crazy and persuades him not to. Once there, things settle down for a bit and the characters go back to their normal lives. Sylvester's sister Katie- who Adam has always had a bit of a thing for - moves in once she starts University, and Adam and Joey both get jobs - Joey as an airport security guard, and Adam at one of the worst restaurants in existance. |
